DGP Dinkar Gupta on Friday inaugurated Police Station Phase 11 building and newly established ‘Saanjh Shakti Helpdesk’ at Saanjh Kendra in Mohali. The DGP said that the special emphasis was being laid to provide a safe and conducive environment to the vulnerable sections of the society so that they can share their issues and concerns with the police without any hesitation.
DGP Dinkar Gupta, along with senior police officials took round of the newly constructed Police Station building, established on one acre land at the cost of ₹2 crore. The two-storey Police Station building comprises of SHO room, munshi room, lock ups, armoury, malkhana and waiting area for public at ground floor, while, the first floor has IO’s (Investigation Officers) rooms, residential portion, including barracks for NGOs, besides the dining/kitchen facility.
The DGP also virtually inaugurated the Rural Closed Circuits Television (CCTV) project under which 154 CCTV cameras, worth ₹1 crore have been installed at strategically important points in the rural belt of Mohali district for the crime detection and citizens’ safety.
Recently, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh had launched the Punjab Police’s SAANJH Shakti Helpdesks and 181 non-emergency helpline exclusively for women, children and senior citizens.
ADGP inaugurates Child Friendly Police Station:
Meanwhile, the ADGP Community Affairs Division and Women and Child Affairs Gurpreet Kaur Deo inaugurated the Child Friendly Police Station in Sohana. This is the second such police station in the state opened by the Punjab Police in a joint initiative with NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
The first such Police Station has been successfully functioning at Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib since July 2020. The purpose of these Police Stations was to provide a children-friendly environment to children visiting the Police Stations, ADGP Deo said.
