Rs 75-crore lift water scheme for Shimla inaugurated

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today inaugurated the Rs 75-crore lift water supply scheme from Chaba (Kol Dam) and laid the foundation stone of the Rs 406-crore water supply scheme for the capital from the Sutlej.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stones of a multi-storey parking and link road to new OPD, IGMC-Shimla, under the Shimla smart city mission that will cost Rs 32 crore.

The Shimla Municipal Corporation has already started the supply from Chaba to the city, but the scheme was opened formally by the CM today.

Addressing people, the Chief Minister said the Rs 406-crore scheme for Shimla would be completed by 2022. This would provide over 67 MLD water to the town till 2050. The Chaba (Kol dam)-Shimla scheme would ensure 10 MLD water to Shimla.

Thakur said the multi-storey parking complex would facilitate the parking of over 400 vehicles and the road linking the new OPD Block of the IGMC to contribute in easing out the parking problem at the IGMC. He said the link would provide an easy access from Cart Road to new OPD Block.

Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj thanked the Chief Minister for dedicating and laying foundation stones of developmental projects worth crores of rupees for Shimla.

Irrigation and Public Health Minister Mahender Singh Thakur, Urban Development Minister Sarveen Chaudhary, Mayor Satya Kaundal, Deputy Mayor Shailender Chauhan, president, district BJP, Ravi Mehta, Secretary, IPH Dr RN Batta, Secretary, Urban Development C. Paulrasu, Commissioner, MC, Shimla, Pankaj Rai and other senior officers were present.
