One of city’s famous tourist destinations, Rock Garden, has been closed for the tourists since March 18. According to administration officials, Rock Garden will open after Diwali.
Member Secretary of Rock Garden Society had issued orders to close the Rock Garden on March 31 in view of the increasing impact of Covid. Since the start of the unlock, various sites in the city have been opened for the public.
Now, boating is also allowed at Sukhna, but the Rock Garden has not been opened yet.
According to sources, the Rock Garden will be opened with certain conditions, including limiting the number of people with strict adherence to Covid guidelines. However, the final decision on this will be taken by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore.
Late Nekchand’s son Anuj Saini said that it was closed due to Coronavirus, but now all the major tourist spots of the country have been opened with conditions. In such a situation, the Rock Garden should also be opened.
He said that during the process of unlocking, repair work was carried out in parts of the garden and cleanliness has been going for the last few days. In 2016, a survey was conducted by America’s online magazine Smithsonian which claimed that after Taj Mahal of Agra, tourists come to Chandigarh to see the Rock Garden. The survey also revealed that more than 5,000 tourists visit the Rock Garden every day.
