Renowned singer Narinder Chanchal passes away at 80

Narinder Chanchal, who is famously called ‘Bhajan Samrat’ and known for singing bhajans in the beauty of Goddess Durga, passed away at Apollo Hospital in Delhi after a prolonged illness at around 12.15pm on Friday.

He was 80. Due to the increasing weakness because of age, he was admitted to Apollo Hospital for the last two months.

Sanjay Malik, known for organising events of Chanchal, confirmed this news and said that Chanchal did not have any particular disease but was feeling very weak for the last several months. As a result, he was admitted to the hospital.

Narinder Chanchal was born in 1940 at Nanak Mandi, Amritsar and was raised in a very religious environment. After listening to the hymns sung by his mother, he got interested in music. Chanchal’s first guru was his mother and then, Chanchal learned music from Prem Trikha.

He was extremely popular for singing bhajans in Jagratas and is also known for singing in Raj Kapoor’s film Bobby. He also received the Filmfare Award for Best Singer. Narinder Chanchal also showcased his singing skills in movies such as ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’, ‘Asha’, ‘Badnaam’, ‘Avatar’, ‘Kala Suraj’, ‘Apne’.
