RCB vs MI: Even after scoring 201 in their innings, RCB had to go to a Super Over for securing a win against MI. IPL 2020 is indeed turning out to be a high scoring affair with scores in the range of 200s being quite regularly chased down by the teams.
Just yesterday RR pulled out a stunning win chasing 223 against KXIP. And today MI almost pulled it off against RCB.
Being put into bat by Mumbai Indians, RCB scored freely and all the top order batsmen looked in great form except for Virat Kohli whose bad run continued and he could only manage 3. Padikkal, Finch and de Villiers scored a half century each and de Villiers 55 came in quick time as he raced to his score in just 24 balls with 4 sixes and 4 boundaries. His innings propelled RCB to a score past 200.
In their innings, MI got nothing right for them and were down three wickets pretty cheaply and were at 39/3 in 6.4 overs. But a late blitzkrieg from Pollard and some wonderful display of batting by youngster Ishan Kishan (99 of 58 balls) almost brought them to the doors of victory. But that did not happen as with 5 needed off the last ball of the innings, Pollard could manage 4 but this ensured that they could have another shot at the victory in the Super Over. Pollard’s 60 came off just 24 balls but they were just a run short.
Navdeep Saini bowled brilliantly in the Super Over and restricted MI to just 7 and also got the wicket of big hitting Pollard thereby giving MI one less ball to score of. de Villiers and Kohli then ensured that they get over the line this time and chased down the score on the last bowl of the Bumrah over.
