Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a nail-biter final match of IPL 2024 season. The game was held on Thursday, May 9th at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala where RCB performed so well to remain in the contention as they ended PBKS dream for this year’s tournament.
After winning the toss, RCB decided to bat first and encountered an early struggle from the PBKS bowlers, scoring a modest 38/3 in the powerplay. However, Virat Kohli’s arrival into the crease resorted the situation in RCB’s favour. The former Indian captain delivered a tremendous effort, scoring 78 off 54 deliveries and being well backed by Rajat Patidar’s smooth 63 off 40 balls. They formed a dominant 121-run partnership for the third wicket, creating the groundwork for an impressive total. Glen Maxwell’s quick 32 off 17 balls in the final overs propelled RCB to a formidable 241/7 at the end of their innings, while Arshdeep Singh emerged as PBKS’ outstanding bowler, capturing three crucial wickets.
In trying to surpass RCB’s daunting mark, PBKS’ batting lineup struggled from the start, under the constant pressure applied by RCB’s bowlers. Despite a courageous effort from Mayank Agarwal, who scored 43 off 32 balls, PBKS struggled to find an equilibrium and was struck out for 181 in 17 overs. Mohammad Siraj and Harshal Patel led RCB’s bowling assault, taking two wickets individually and restricting PBKS’ batting surge.
