To honour the actors of Ramlila, a ceremony was organised by Shri Ram Utsav Committee at Tagore Theater, Sector 18, on Sunday. The ceremony honoured the actors who played the role of Ravana. The event began with a welcome speech from Acharya P Khurrana.
Ravana from various organisations of Chandigarh and Panchkula were seen on the stage. They came dressed in their characters’ outfits and spoke the dialogues on the stage.
Rajendra Bagga, president of Shri Ram Utsav Committee, said that Ravana had many qualities, due to which he was considered very intelligent. “He had all the knowledge of the four Vedas, but after the kidnapping of Sita, he was seen as negative. Despite that, there was goodness in him as he did not touch Sita without permission. It is also important to highlight such qualities.”
This organisation has been honouring various characters of Ramlila for the last nine years. Bagga said that various artistes of Ramlila are honoured every year and this time, actors playing the role of Ravana were selected.
Director Rajesh Chauhan said, “Our organisation is the only one in the tricity that conducts such programmes.” “This time due to Covid, not everyone could watch the Ramlila. Therefore, we made an effort to gather all the Ravanas on one stage and learn from each other. Today, children are forgetting their traditions and this is why this effort was made. In future, we will take it forward and present other artists on one platform,” he added.
