Rail roko agitation extended till Sept 29

The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee has announced to extend their ‘rail roko’ till September 29 in protest against the farm Bills, recently passed in Parliament.

The Railways had cancelled various special trains running from the Ferozepur division from September 24 to 26, which was scheduled to conclude today, but was extended.

Members of the committee said the agitation will be strengthened in the coming days and would ‘force the government to rollback the Bills’.

“On September 27, members of women’s groups will join the protest, while on September 28, youth will take part in the protest on the occasion of Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary,” said Sarwan Singh Pandher, state secretary of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti.

“We will not allow any leaders of the political parties to address the farmers at the protest site. Our struggle will continue till recently passed farm bills are not withdrawn,” he added.

Protests against the farm legislations were witnessed in various parts of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Odisha and Tamil Nadu.

The Parliament recently passed The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
