Israel is at war with Hamas terrorists, and the violence has killed over 3,000 on both sides. As Israeli soldiers fight for their country against Hamas, they are being served a 100% vegetarian Rajasthani ‘thali’ (plate) by Pushkar-based Sumit Sharma, also known as ‘Kalu Baba’.The food is being served to 150 soldiers every day, said Sumit Sharma, who has been living in Israel for the last 8-10 years. Even as the country witnesses war, deaths and devastation, Sumit refuses to leave.
“How can I leave a country that has given me so much? The people here regularly consume Rajasthani food and I am happy to serve them. Today, Israel is being attacked continuously by Hamas. In this sad time, I don’t feel like leaving the country,” he said.Sumit Sharma is famous as ‘Kalu Baba’ from Pushkar in Rajasthan. He came to Israel in 2013 and runs a restaurant in the Golan region. He also got married in Israel.
Describing the situation in war-torn Israel, Sumit said, “I can hear the sound of rockets and bullets all around. A rocket landed near me but I managed to run to a bunker within 30 seconds.”Over 1,300 have been killed in Israel following a surprise attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists last weekend. In retaliation, Israel also struck Hamas organisations in the Gaza Strip, killing over 1,900.
