To encourage the children for education, the Punjab government is currently providing 17 types of scholarships to school students.
Disclosing this, a spokesperson of Punjab School Education Department said that class 9 and 10 students are being given an annual stipend of Rs 3,000 per student under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC students. This scholarship is given to students whose parents’ annual income is less than Rs. 2.50 lakh. Similarly, students from class 1 to 10 are being awarded an annual stipend of Rs 1,500 under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for OBC students. The annual income limit of the parents has been fixed at Rs 2.50 lakh.
Under the “Dr. Hargobind Khurana Scholarship Scheme”, students who get 90% or more marks in matric are eligible for the scholarship of Rs 3,000 per month for two years. This scholarship scheme is only for the students of government and Adarsh schools.
Similarly, Rs 1,000 is being granted once to three boys and three girls who get first three positions in class 5 at block level under General Scholarship Scheme. Moreover, Rs 1,500 is awarded to the boys and girls who score first three positions in class 8 at block level.
The students from class 1 to 10 are given an annual stipend of Rs 1,850 under the Unclean Occupation Scholarship Scheme. There is no income limit and this scholarship is being provided to students whose parents work in tanners, flayers and waste pickers. Similarly, scholarships are also being offered to sports students studying from class 6 to 12 under SC sports scholarship.
Students from class 6 to 8 class are being awarded Rs 500, from 9 to 10 are given Rs750 and class 11 and 12 are given Rs 1,000. Three boys and three girls who get first three positions at the block level are eligible for these scholarships.
Under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Castes, children whose parents’ income is less than Rs. 2.50 lakh are eligible for maintenance allowance of Rs 2,500 per annum and hostellers are eligible for Rs 4,000 per annum. The student should have 75% attendance and should have at least 50% marks. Similarly other backward classes are given maintenance allowance of Rs 160 per month under Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for OBC students. The income limit of parents has been kept at Rs 1.50 lakh per annum and student attendance should be 75% and marks should be 60% or higher.
Similarly, the ‘scheme of up-gradation of merit of SC Students’, Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities, Post-Matric Scholarship for Minorities, National Merit-cum-Means Scholarship, Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Students with Disabilities, Post-Matric Scholarships Scheme for Students with Disabilities, Scholarship Scheme for Wards of Registered Laborers, Attendance Scholarships for SC Girls and Attendance Scholarship for EWC And BC Girls is being awarded under different conditions.
