The Punjab Kings registered a dominant seven-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings in yesterday’s IPL encounter at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Chasing a modest target of 163, the Kings displayed clinical batting to secure their win with 9 balls to spare.
Put in the field first, Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal justified his decision as his bowlers applied early pressure. Arshedeep Singh struck twice in his opening spell, removing Ruturaj Gaikwad (91) and Devon Conway (27) cheaply. While Gaikwad provided some resistance with a fighting knock, the CSK middle order failed to capitalize. Ambati Rayudu (32) and MS Dhoni (24) got started but couldn’t covert them into substantial scores. Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar shared three wickets each, restricting Chennai to a below-par 162/7 in their 20 overs.
In reply, the Kings openers provided a solid foundation for their chase. Jonny Bairstow (42) continued his impressive form, smashing seven boundaries to take the attack to the CSK bowlers. Mayank Agarwal (28) played the anchor role, ensuring a steady flow of runs. After dismissals, Liam Livingstone (48*) and Shah Rukh Khan (33*) took over, finishing the chase comfortably. The duo punished any loose delivery, stitching together an unbeaten 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket to seal the victory for Punjab.

Mayank Agarwal, Punjab Kings captain (winning captain): “We knew restricting CSK to a low score was key. The bowlers did a fantastic job upfront, and the openers provided a platform we needed. Happy with the way everyone contributed.”
MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings captain: “Disappointing batting performance. We lost wickets at crucial junctures and couldn’t put up a competitive total. We need to regroup and come back stronger in the next match.”
With this convincing win, the Punjab Kings climb to the 5th position in the points table, while the Chennai Super Kings struggle for consistency. Both teams will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches.
