In a major recruitment drive, Punjab Government has initiated the process to hire 1,318 engineers in various government departments under the “Ghar Ghar Rozgar and Karobar Mission.”
Announcing this, Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan disclosed that the requisition for engineering posts in various government departments has been sent to the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), which has already started the recruitment drive for these posts and advertisement has been issued to invite applications for these posts.
Divulging the details, she said the requisition for a total of 1,318 posts includes 1,075 junior engineers (civil), 80 junior engineers (mechanical), 15 junior engineers (electrical), 4 junior engineers (electrical/ mechanical), 94 sub-divisional engineers (civil) and 50 sub-divisional engineers (electrical/ mechanical). She asserted that the selection for these posts would be done purely on merit basis.
The last recruitment drive was conducted in 2016 when only 216 posts were filled. Earlier, in the year 2014, only 30 posts were filled and in 2012, only 25 such posts were filled.
The Chief Secretary informed that this year, the Punjab Government would fill 1 lakh government vacancies in various departments.
“The approval for filling 61,000 vacancies has already been accorded by the Punjab Cabinet, about 8,079 recruitments have already been made and requisition for filling 27,206 vacancies was at an advanced stage, of which requisition for 18,409 posts have already been sent to the PPSC/ SSSB/ third party for recruitment and advertisements for filling 8,797 posts have been issued by the departments concerned at their own level,” she said.
Punjab Government has established District Bureaus of Employment and Enterprises (DBEEs) in all the districts as one-stop platform for the unemployed youth seeking employment assistance under the Punjab Ghar Ghar Rozgar and Karobar Mission (PGRKAM), which has been established with the main objective to prepare and facilitate/ assist the unemployed youth in getting suitable livelihood opportunities.
