Punjab Congress leader and former finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal quit the party on Wednesday and blamed its top brass for factionalism. The development came a day after Rahul Gandhi’s-led Bharat Jodo Yatra crossed Punjab yesterday and entered Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday morning. In a letter addressed to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Manpreet Badal wrote that a coterie of men in Delhi is running affairs in Punjab and have only increased factionalism. He resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today.
Badal reached the BJP headquarters in Delhi to join the party after resigning from the Congress. The Punjab leader joined the saffron camp in the presence of Union minister Piyush Goyal.”How can you operate with party that’s at war with itself? There are coteries. One is made LoP,another is made leader of Legislative party &these coteries fight among themselves…Such situation is there in every state, that’s Congress’ condition,” he said after joining the BJP.
