Delhi Police on Monday issued a Look-out-Circular (LoC) against two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar, who is absconding after being named in the murder of a 23-year-old former junior national champion in North West Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium.
As per sources, on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, a quarrel had broken between wrestlers at Chhatrasal Stadium which quickly escalated after someone from the group fired shots. The injured wrestlers had to be rushed to the Trauma Centre, Civil Lines, where one of the wrestlers, a former junior national champion, succumbed to his injuries. Sushil Kumar is said to be involved in the incident and an FIR of murder, abduction and criminal conspiracy was registered against him.
Police said that two other victims, who were also thrashed during the brawl, have recorded their statement before police and confirmed presence of Kumar during the brawl.
“The technical surveillance has also confirmed the location of Sushil Kumar in the Stadium during brawl. We are conducting raids in Delhi-NCR and Uttarakhand to arrest him,” said a police officer.
The Delhi Police has registered a case of murder and an investigation is underway. A 24-year-old Prince Dalal from Jhajjar, Haryana has been arrested in the case with double-barrel-loaded guns. Another accused in the firing, Sonu Mahal is touted to be a close associate of gangster Kala Jathedi.
It has been learnt that Sushil Kumar left for Haridwar and then Rishikesh after the incident. He stayed at an ashram in Haridwar. Later, he returned to Delhi and is now constantly changing locations in Haryana.
