PM Modi Leads Wishes For Team India On First Ever Gold Medal

Extending his wishes to the Indian men’s badminton team that won the Thomas Cup for the first time on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that they have scripted history and their win will motivate several upcoming sportspersons. Taking to his Twitter handle, PM Modi wrote, “The Indian badminton team has scripted history! The entire nation is elated by India winning the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future endeavours. This win will motivate so many upcoming sportspersons.”

Apart from the Prime Minister, wishes poured in from different corners for the winning team.Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, “India clinched the Thomas Cup. A momentous day for the Indian Badminton team that will be etched in the annals of our sport’s history. I congratulate our entire team on this great accomplishment. Every Indian is immensely proud today.”

Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, hailing the victory, announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for the men’s badminton team.He tweeted, “HISTORY CREATED! Congratulations to the Indian men’s badminton team’s for winning the Thomas Cup! This extraordinary feat, with succesive victories over Malaysia, Denmark and Indonesia, calls for matching honour by the nation.”“@IndiaSports is proud to announce a cash award of ₹ 1 crore for the team in relaxation of rules to acknowledge this unparalleled feat! Congratulations Team India!!,” Thakur further wrote.

Congratulating the winning team, Indian field hockey player Rani Rampal wrote, “History scripted!! Congratulations @TeamIndia for maiden @ThomasCup. Proud moment for India.”

“HISTORY SCRIPTED! Pure show of grit and determination & India becomes the @ThomasCup champion for the 1st time in style, beating 14 times champions Indonesia 3-0 in the finals. It’s coming home!” wrote BAI Media.

Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri also wished the team and tweeted, “What a moment for Indian sport – we are Thomas Cup champions for the first ever time, and we beat the best to make it happen. Congrats to the players and staff.”
