Panjab University (PU) has started planning to open the campus after getting orders from University Grants Commission (UGC) to open the varsity. For this purpose, a committee is deciding the manner to open the campus where all Covid guidelines can be followed.
PU is expected to open in December. Till now, preparations were on to open the varsity in new year.
There are more than 14,000 students enrolled in Panjab University and there are around 70 departments. In such a situation, not all students can be called to classes. According to sources, classes will be divided into seven parts and 2,000 students will be called on campus according to a class-wise roster. Not all students will be allowed to stay in the hostels.
Students studying art, science, law and management will be called on different days. However, the campus will only open when Panjab University completes the admission process.
UGC has instructed universities to make proper arrangements to open the campus. After classes are conducted, the class room should be sanitised. For this, the educational institutions will have to make arrangements for sanitisers, etc. Students will have to wear a mask all the time and have to carry their own water. PU has more than 40 canteens and if the campus opens, only packaged food will be sold.
