Number of Indus dolphins increases to 12 in Beas river

In good news for the eco-tourism of Punjab, the number of Indus dolphins in Beas river is increasing. This specie of dolphins was on the verge of extinction. The number of Indus dolphins, which was first spotted around 13 years back, is now 12.

With this news, the forest department has increased the patrolling in the surrounding area to protect this rare family.

The Indus dolphin was first spotted in the Beas River in 2007. In 13 years, the forest department has worked on a special action plan to protect them and also imposed some necessary restrictions there.

Recently, some activity of Indus Dolphin in Beas was observed. When this was investigated intensively by the forest officials, it was found that now their number is increasing. In 2007, an officer of the Forest Department, who was fond of photography, was boating in the river.

At that time, he saw some movement in the water and as his curiosity increased, he focussed his camera on the spot. After waiting for a few moments, the camera captured some pictures. On inspection of the photo, it was found that there were endangered Indus dolphins in the river.
