No question hour in monsoon session, only written questions

Amid Opposition pressure against doing away with Question Hour in the coming monsoon session of Parliament, the government has announced to answer questions in the written format (un-starred).

The session is scheduled between September 14 and October 1 without any break, with the Lok Sabha (LS) and Rajya Sabha (RS) holding a four-hour meeting each day during separate time slots.

On Wednesday, the parliamentary bulletin gave schedule for ministries, listing days on which questions will be taken up for written replies. The questions will be selected via ballot.

Earlier, sources had confirmed that there will be no question hour and only zero hour will be allowed. During zero hour, parliamentarians can raise matters of great importance without the mandatory ten days advance notice.

On the first day of the Session on September 14, the Lower House will meet from 9am to 1pm and sitting in the Upper House will begin 3pm to 7pm.

On subsequent days, proceedings in Rajya Sabha will be held from 9am till 1pm while the time for Lok Sabha sittings has been fixed from 3pm to 7pm.
