Playing songs promoting vulgarity, alcohol and weapons in public transport has completely banned
Following Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order on prohibiting playing songs promoting vulgarity, alcohol and weapons in vehicles in public transport, the Chandigarh Transport Department has completely banned playing music in CTU buses.
A notice has been issued by the department, stating that no driver and operator shall install, nor play any type of music system in the bus. If it is found that a music system is installed, strict action will be taken with against the concerned driver and operator.
A petition was filed in the High Court by Dr Pandit Rao Dhanerwar, Assistant Professor at PGGC-46, who was following the matter legally.
He thanked the Secretary, Home Secretary and Transport Department of Chandigarh Administration and said that the High Court order needs to be followed by all. In July 2019, the High Court had given a historic verdict on the PIL of Pandit Rao Dhanerwar, ordering that the songs which promote alcohol, drugs and weapons are affecting our children. Hence, such songs should be prohibited.
