Due to the spread of Covid-19, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has decided not to organise the Chrysanthemum Show this year. This is the third time in 35 years that the Chrysanthemum Show has been cancelled.
Started in 1985, this event is held in December every year. More than 250 varieties of the flower are displayed. Various competitions are also organised by the MC.
Till 1987, the show used to be organised at Laser valley Park in Chandigarh. Later, it was moved to the Terraced Garden, Sector 33. In 1987 and 1988, it rained a lot and the show could not be organised.
According to sources, Rose Festival may also be affected by this lockdown. The Rose Festival was started in 1970 and sees over 800 species of roses.
It takes approximately ₹18 to ₹20 lakh to organise the Chrysanthemum Show and its preparations take around two months.
