The Urban Planning Department of UT Administration has designed the new DC office of the city and sent it for approval. The new DC office will be built on an empty 2-acre plot near Hotel Shivalikview in Sector-17. It will have seven storeys and will be as high as the UT Secretariat.
Under the new DC office plan, work related to public dealing will be on the first floor. There are also plans to replace the existing DC office, which was designed by Swiss architect Pierre Jeanneret, as the National Gallery of Modern Art.
The Urban Planning Department of UT Administration was engaged in preparing the architectural plan for the past several months. After its preparation, it has been sent to the DC office Chandigarh on behalf of the department. If DC agrees to the office plan, then work can be started by taking NOC from various departments.
An official said, “The administration aims to beautify the Sector-17 under the Smart City Chandigarh Project. Many projects are underway in the city and some have been completed. These include bicycle tracks, footpaths, underpasses in Sector-16, 17 and areas around Football Stadium in Sector-17 to be developed as urban parks. The proposal to convert the existing DC office building of Chandigarh located in Sector-17 into National Gallery of Modern Art was approved by the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) team last year.”
