From next year, MPhil at Punjab University will be discontinued. Instead, it will be replaced by a four-year degree course. After that, students will be able to take admissions in PhD directly on completing their Masters. MPhil will no longer be required for PhD.
The course has been going on for quite some time which is done after Masters degree. After doing this course, the person is admitted to PhD. It takes seven years from graduation to pass MPhil. Due to excessive time and some other reasons, provision has been made to discontinue this course in the National Education Policy. This will save a year of the students.
Sources say that PU will adopt the policy this year and then there will be no new admissions. Students will take a four-year degree course in place of MPhil.
In the second year of the Masters, entire work will be related to research. According to sources, PU will have to make changes in the syllabus to start the four year course for students.
