Governor of Punjab and Chandigarh Administrator VP Singh Badnore inaugurated the second Mini Sports Complex at Sector 27 in the presence of Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator.
Chandigarh has three major sports complex in Sector 7, 42 and 46 and a cricket stadium in Sector 16. The sports facility has also been provided at Lake Sports Complex. To further strengthen the existing facilities, six major sports complex in Sector 34, 38, 43, 50, 56 and Manimajra and a mini sports complex in Sector 39 have been made functional.
The priority has also been given to make provisions for more sports infrastructure facilities in schools situated in the city, wherever possible. To meet with the demands of school children during school hours and to use these facilities after school hours by the neighborhood residents, one mini sports complex within the premises of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 is already functional and another mini sports complex has been constructed in Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 27.
This mini sports complex has the facility of a swimming pool, three badminton courts, coach room, snack bar and a spectators gallery, etc. It is spread over an area of 1.27 acre, having covered area of 42,990 sft and was completed at the cost of Rs 5 crore.
The sports complex is planned in a way by providing separate entry/exit with sufficient parking for 40 vehicles, so that it can be used by school children during school hours and can also be used by the neighbourhood residents after school hours.
The administrator also paid homage to Milkha Singh by observing silence for two minutes and appreciated the efforts of sports legendary for bringing the name of Chandigarh on the world map in sports activities.
