Deputy Commissioner -cum-President Zila Sainik Welfare Chandigarh, Vinay Partap Singh and Brig (Retd.)Satinder Singh, Director Sainik Welfare Punjab pinned a lapel on the Punjab Governor and Administrator, Chandigarh, Banwarilal Purohit on the occasion of the Armed Forces Flag Day at Punjab Raj Bhavan today.
Donating generously into the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, the Administrator said, “Looking after the welfare of the families of martyrs is a collective responsibility.” It is our onerous duty to extend all possible support to rehabilitate the families of all martyrs and the brave soldiers who were disabled during various wars or other operations, said he. Paying respect to all those gallant soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, the Administrator said that our Armed Forces have been serving the nation with great distinction both during war and peace. They have consistently displayed the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in every task entrusted to them. Our Armed Forces have ensured the protection of our territorial integrity, fought the scourge of terrorism and provided succor to fellow citizens in times of natural calamities. “They will always remain the pride of the nation,” said the Governor.
Acknowledging the exemplary contributions of our armed forces the Administrator said that their perseverance and courage are outstanding. He also appreciated the Ex-Servicemen for voluntarily helping the civil administration infight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Contributing Rs. Two lac into the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund of Zila Sainik Welfare UT Chandigarh and Punjab he called upon all citizens to voluntarily extend liberal donations to the noble cause of rehabilitation of war widows, disabled defense personnel, ex-servicemen and their families.Since 1949, the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund is observed to honour the martyrs as well as men and women in uniform, who valiantly fight on our borders to safeguard the country’s honour.Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Col. Anil Kumar Kundra, ZSWO, UT, Chandigarh and Col Vijay Sood, ZSWO, Punjab.
