Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker scored a historic goal against West Brom on Sunday to help the side win 3 points at The Hawthorns. This is first time in Liverpool’s 129 years’ history that a goalkeeper scored a goal for the side. And this was just not any other goal, it was a winning header from a corner kick. This is also the first time in Premier League history as well that a goalkeeper scored a header.
Liverpool’s goalkeeper coach John Achterberg told the Brazilian goalkeeper where to stand inside the opponent penalty area. And then, 28-year-old did the unthinkable. Liverpool had to win this game in order to keep their top four hopes alive. Becker’s goal in the last minute helped Liverpool to win the game against West Brom by 2-1. After West Brom scored its first goal in the 15th minute of the game, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah inflicted an equalizer to level the score 1-1 before halftime. In the second half, both sides failed to capitalise on opportunities and the scoreline still read 1-1 towards the end of the match.
The top four Race for Liverpool is very much alive right now. If they win their remaining two fixture, they would seal their position into the top four. Unless Leicester City lose their next match against Chelsea and win their next match against Tottenham Hotspurs with a huge margin.
