The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged victorious in a close encounter against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Chasing a modest total of 146 runs, KKR secured a crucial win by 24 runs, thanks to a combined batting effort and some disciplined bowling.
MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Their innings got off to a shaky start as they lost wickets in quick succession. Openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma themselves fell cheaply, leaving MI reeling at 32/2 within the powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav, the in-form batsman, tried to anchor the innings with a fighting 43 runs, but the wickets continued to tumble at the other end. Kieron Pollard provided some late impetus with a quickfire 38 off 21 balls, but MI could only manage a below-par total of 145 runs in their allotted 18.5 overs. Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine were the pick of the KKR bowlers, picking up three wickets each.
