Kia Carnival is no longer on sale in India, and the carmaker is not accepting orders for the MPV. The Carnival was introduced in India in 2020 as a premium alternative to the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta, while it was also an affordable option to the luxury MPVs like the Toyota Vellfire. It provided a premium interior as well as the spaciousness and functionality of a high-end luxury MPV for less than Rs 40 lakh. The Carnival which was retailed in India was a previous generation model based on an old platform. Internationally, the new generation model is already out and the Korean marque has even begun work on the facelifted model.
Though the Carnival was sold in its previous iteration in India, it still offered a lot such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.1-inch rear entertainment screen, twin sunroofs, and three-zone climate control. The MPV also featured a powered tailgate, one-touch power sliding doors, and ventilated and 10-way adjustable driver’s seat.Safety was taken care of by up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), cornering brake control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and hill assist.
Kia offered the Carnival with only one engine option, which was a 2.2-litre diesel engine churning out 200PS and 440Nm. The unit was mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission which powered the front wheels.
Kia had already showcased the fourth-gen Carnival at the 2023 Auto Expo in Delhi. The new-gen Carnival comes with an enhanced feature list and more macho looks, as detailed in this article. Kia is still analysing the Indian market for its new-gen MPV, and if everything goes as planned, we will be seeing the new-gen Kia Carnival here in 2024.
