Central government has appointed Justice (retd) SS Saron as the new chief commissioner, gurdwara elections.
His appointment has been approved by the appointments committee of the cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The appointment letter says the tenure will be two years from the date of assuming charge, extendable by one year. The main responsibility of the chief commissioner Gurudwara Elections is to hold elections to the mini-parliament of Sikhs, the Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
Justice Saron retired from the Punjab and Haryana high court three years ago.
