Amidst escalating political tensions in Haryana, Dushyan Chautala, leader of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), has taken a decisive step by writing to the Haryana governor, urging for a floor test against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Paty (BJP) government in the state. This move follows the withdrawal of support by three independent MLAs to the Nayab Singh Saini government, plunging the government into a minority. The JJP, a former ally of the BJP, has expressed readiness to assist the Congress in toppling the BJP-led government.
On May 7, the Haryana government faced a setback when three Independent MLAs, namely Randhir Golan, Dharampal Gonder, and Sombir Singh Sangwan, withdrew their support, rendering the government in a minority position. These MLAs pledged their support to the Congress party, exacerbating the political turmoil in the state.
Dushyant Chautala emphasised the government’s dwindling majority, highlighting the resignation of two MLAs-one from the BJP and the other an Independent-alongside the withdrawal of support by three Independent MLAs. He affirmed the JJP’s stance to support a no-confidence motion against the government and urged Congress to initiate the process.
Chautala further urged the governor to intervene and implement the President’s Rule in Haryana if the incumbent government fails to demonstrate majority support in a floor test. Despite assertions by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini that his government remains stable, Chautala’s call for a floor test underscores the fragility of the current administration’s hold on power.

Presently, the Haryana assembly comprises 88 members, with two seats vacant. The BJP holds 40 seats, followed by the Congress with 30 seats and the JJP with 10 seats. The government also enjoys the support of two Independent legislators, indicating a precarious balance of power.
As the Haryana political maneuverings intensifies, the fate of the state government hangs in the balance, with the specter of a floor test looming large. The outcome of this political standoff will not only shape the future of governance in Haryana but also have far-reaching implications for the state’s political landscape.
