Jalandhar Cop Transferred After Viral Assault Video, Inquiry Launched

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from the Jalandhar rural police has been moved to police lines after a viral video appeared of him allegedly beating two young men on a Bhogpur roadside. The officer, Jaswinder Singh, was formerly assigned to the Bhogpur police station. The event drew extensive notice on social media, causing the police department to take immediate action.

A departmental inquiry was initiated against ASI Jaswinder Singh and was confirmed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh. An investigation undertaken by Adampur DSP Sumit Sood found the officer guilty of misconduct. “The investigation has revealed clear violations of conduct, leading to immediate disciplinary measures,” according to SSP Khakh.

The video, which has gone viral, shows ASI Jaswinder Singh hitting and kicking two young guys as they scream for compassion.

“The police force remains committed to upholding the law, and this incident serves as a reminder that no one is above it—not even our officers,” said SSP Khakh. He emphasised that appropriate departmental action would be taken by established processes to address the wrongdoing.

The event has generated discussions about police accountability and the need to preserve public faith in law enforcement. The Jalandhar Rural Police Department’s prompt response to the viral video demonstrates its dedication to openness and justice. Further discoveries are likely as the departmental investigation continues.
