Instructions issued to police officials for Punjab Bandh

In view of Punjab Bandh declared on September 25 by famers’ organisations in protest against the agriculture bills, instructions have been issued to all the District Deputy Commissioners and Chiefs of Police on behalf of the state government.

Under instructions issued by the Home Department to the District Deputy Commissioners, they have been asked to remain alert during the 48-hour Bandh and Rail Roko movement from September 24 to 26. Along with this, officials have been instructed to adopt a soft attitude towards the farmers during the Bandh and no strict coercion should be imposed on them.

Also, ambulance services, civil surgeons, doctors and paramedical staff have been asked to be gear up so that any injured can be provided immediate medical attention in any untoward incident during the demonstration.

The Home Department has also issued instructions that there should be a complete ban on carrying weapons in public places. The district deputy commissioners, police commissioners and district police chiefs have been asked to formulate a plan for peacefully carrying out the peasant movement in a joint meeting with railway police officials and intelligence agencies of the state.

The Home Department decided that during the demonstration, photography and videos of demonstrations on state rail lines, railway stations and highways will be made on record.

Apart from this, the farmers’ leaders have been asked to monitor and take strict action to keep pace and ensure the security of life and property of common passers-by.

NRIWO announces full support for Kisan movement

Chairman and Convenor of NRI World Organisation (NRIWO) Dr Amarjit Tanda announced full support to the Kisan movement by NRIWO.

He said, “All the NRIs worldwide offer full support to the Kisan movement protesting anti-agriculture Bills. We believe in the politics of solution of kisan mazdoor problems, and the people of Punjab would infuse their strength to ensure its implementation, be it against sand mining, cable or liquor mafia, and, now the black laws enacted in the shape of farm bills.”

Dr Tanda said that the Centre was replacing the powerful mandi system with the free market model programme —which has failed in the US and Europe. “It would impact the state’s revenue to the tune of ₹4,000 crore per annum, that was incurred from mandis only.”

In a historic move, all 31 farmer organisations in Punjab have joined hands to ensure their bandh call is a success. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of 31 farmer organisations held at Moga in which it was decided to make the occasion historic by not taking the support of any political party.
