Chandigarh residents can now apply for installation of rooftop solar plants in residential areas at zero cost under Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model.

RESCO model is a zero-investment model in which the consumer pays only for the electricity generated, while the plant is owned by the RESCO developer.
Approximately 2,400 units are proposed to be installed on first-come-first-serve basis under Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST) scheme. The capacity of plants will be 5 to 10kWp for the residential sectors. The benefits to the beneficiary/consumer are: zero investment, will get cheaper power than current applicable tariff, zero expense on operation and maintenance of rooftop solar plant till transfer period and panels act as insulator for the rooftop and will thus directly reduce the A/C load of top floor.
