India’s Covid-19 death toll breached the 50,000 mark on Monday as 941 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday.
As many as 57,982 cases were reported in the last 24 hours across the nation, taking the total count to 26, 47,664 and 50,921 deaths.
As per the recent update, there are 6, 76,900 active cases and 19,19,843 patients have been discharged.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with 1, 56,719 active cases. Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have 88,138 and 81,284 active cases, respectively.
On the other hand, Delhi has 11,489 active cases while 1, 36,251 have been cured/discharged.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that around 3 crore samples have been tested up to August 16 for Covid-19.
“Focussing on timely and aggressive testing, India has exceeded 3 crore tests. Enhanced and timely testing is not only keeping the Positivity Rate low but also the Fatality Rate low,” the Health Ministry said.
