India registered 44,877 new cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in last 24 hours, taking the daily positivity rate marginally down to 3.17 per cent, the Union health ministry bulletin showed on Sunday morning. A total of 684 people succumbed to the viral infection in the span of one day, taking the death toll to 5,08,665.
The cumulative total infecrions in the country now stands at 42,631,421, while the active caseload is currently at 5,37,045. The active cases at present account for 1.26 per cent of the total cases.The number of positive cases recorded today are 11 per cent less than yesterday, when the count topped up by 45,486 new infections. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 4.46 per cent, the health ministry data showed.
As many as 1,17,591 people were discharged in the last 24 hours, increasing the recoveries to 4,15,85,711. The recovery rate now stands at 97.55 per cent.
