Horticulture Insurance Scheme to start in Haryana, will cover 20 crops

On the lines of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Haryana chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar will launch the Horticulture Insurance Scheme in the state. Its blueprint has been prepared by the Department of Horticulture and a provision of ₹10 crore will be made as the starting capital for the scheme.

Horticultural crops are also covered under the PMFBY, but one has to pay a premium of 5% of the assured amount per acre. This amount will be reduced to 2.5% under the Chief Minister Horticulture Insurance Scheme. Under the Horticulture Insurance scheme, insurance amount will be ₹30,000 per acre for vegetables and spices and ₹ 40,000 per acre for fruits.

A total of 20 horticultural crops are covered under the insurance scheme, including 14 vegetable crops, two spice crops and four fruit crops. These include tomato, onion, potato, cauliflower, peas, carrots, okra, gourd, bitter gourd, brinjal, green chillies, cabbage and radish. Spice crops include turmeric and garlic while fruits include mango, kinnow, plum and guava.

The compensation amount will be based on the survey. The monitoring, review and resolution of disputes will be done through the state level and district level committees constituted under PMFBY. To take advantage of this scheme, farmers have to be registered on https://fasal.haryana.gov.in/

The insurance scheme will cover natural disasters. The plan covers the damage to crops due to inclement weather, hail, temperature, frost, flood, cloudburst, canal and drainage, waterlogging, storm, storm and fire.
