Hookah bars to be banned in Chandigarh

Manoj Parida, advisor to Chandigarh Administrator, has directed DC Mandeep Singh Brar to ban hookahs in the city. This instruction was given to curb the spread of Covid as crowds gather in the clubs and discotheques of the city.

Parida said that smokers are more prone to the infection and they may already suffer from pulmonary diseases. The hose which are shared with each other and can become the cause of infection.

According to information, official orders in this regard will be issued in the coming few days. After this water pipes and all other types of hookah will be banned in all public places including hotels, restaurants, bars, pubs and discos.

Haryana banned it in Sept end

Haryana Government completely banned the hookah bars in view of the pandemic in September end.

Panchkula resident Vijay Bansal had filed a petition in the High Court stating that the youth are being offered hookah at restaurants, bars and various places in the state. It uses water filters and is wasting the youth.

The state government, after the order issued by the High Court, had constituted a task force to take action against bars. When the petitioner sought information from the RTI as to what action has been taken to check the Hookah bars so far, he was refused to be informed. He urged the High Court to instruct the government to take concrete steps in this direction. During the hearing, the Haryana government informed that hookah bars are completely banned in the state as per the centre’s guideline on Covid-19.
