Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra bags a historic silver medal with his massive fourth-attempt throw of 88.13m. Neeraj is India’s first ever track and field athlete to take the silver medal in the World Championships, and second to bag a podium-finish after the legendary long jumper Anju Bobby George had finished third in the Paris Worlds in 2003.
He kicked off the proceedings on a disappointing note as he registered a foul throw before bettering his second attempt of 82.39m with a 86.37m throw. His 88.13m throw in his fourth attempt however put him in contention for the silver medal while his last two attempts were foul throws.
Rohit Yadav, the other Indian in the event, made attempts of 78.72m, 78.05m and 77.95m to finish 10th in the event. Defending champion Anderson Peters of Grenada reigned supreme after making three 90m+ attempts in the final, while Olympic silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch finished third.
