Vaccine is being prepared for the first time in Haryana for poultry farm operators who are battling bird flu.
Indovax, a Hisar-based company, has started research and will soon start production of the vaccine. So far more than 5 lakh chickens have died in Panchkula due to the avian flu and more than 50,000 culled.
Currently, vaccines are being sourced from Gujarat which is being used by poultry farm operators to protect the chickens. According to information provided by the Food and Drug Department, a Gujarat-based company, Hester Bioscience Limited, was approached for the vaccine.
According to the Food department, only the healthy bird or chicken is to be vaccinated. A bird that has been affected by the flu should not be given the vaccine.
The company has been asked to speed up production. The stock of this vaccine is stored in Panchkula. As the amount of the vaccine is currently limited, it is not possible to give vaccines to all the poultry farm operators.
According to doctors, apart from bird flu, there are many other reasons for the death of chickens. Generally, chickens die due to the cold too or even suffocation, as the chickens stay in congested poultry farms. Malnutrition is another cause of death. At present, apart from Panchkula, bird flu has not been detected in any other district of the state. The teams of the concerned department are constantly visiting poultry farms. However, information about the death of crows and other birds is coming in many places.
