219 health workers of PGIMER infected with Covid-19

As many as 219 health workers of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) have been infected by Covid-19. Of these, nine doctors are admitted to the Covid Hospital while 210 health workers are placed in home isolation. According to the PGI administration, those infected include doctors from different departments, nursing officers, technical staff and other employees.

According to PGIMER, all 219 health workers were found positive while on duty in the Covid-19 hospital. However, it is a matter of relief that none of them is critical. All the infected 219 employees will have the RTPCR re-test after 17 days. Till then, they will remain in home isolation.

In the Covid-19 hospital of PGIMER, more than 2,500 workers are deployed who report on daily basis. They have been deployed on duty in Covid-19 ICU, isolation ward and other wards in different shifts.

During the Corona pandemic, a total of 1,457 PGIMER health workers have been infected since 2020. The PGI administration has not confirmed any deaths so far. Apart from this, 150 have been infected in GMSH-16, while more than 100 health workers have been hit by Corona in GMCH-32.

On the other hand, 1,191 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the tricity, with six deaths. Five of the deaths were reported from Mohali while one was from Chandigarh. As many as 397 cases were found in Chandigarh, 509 in Mohali and 285 from Panchkula. Also, 57 more micro-containment zones were declared in the city. The new zones include one each in Sector 2, 4, 11, 15, 22, 23, 30, 34, 35, 39, 41, 48, 50, 51, Subhash Nagar, Pipli Wala Town and Khuda Lahora.
