Haryana Agricultural varsity establishes 7 radio stations, will update farmers about latest technology

Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University has become the first agricultural varsity in the country to establish seven community radio stations.

University vice-chancellor Prof Samar Singh launched three community radio stations simultaneously in various agricultural science centres of the institution: Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Jind, Panipat and Kurukshetra. Three community radio stations in Hisar, Jhajjar and Rohtak are already operating. The work of the community radio station in Sirsa is in the final stage and will be started soon.

Director of Extension Education, Dr RS Hooda said that all these stations have been set up under the National Agriculture Development Scheme and Atma Scheme of the Haryana Government.

Farmers will be provided latest information related to the improved varieties of crops, their sowing information, diseases and pests and solutions, weather, advice by university scientists, animal husbandry and home science. In the era of Covid, as in-person contact between farmers and agronomists is not feasible, these radio stations will serve as an important link of connection.

Farmers will get complete information on current topics. These stations will also promote local culture, art and knowledge. Programmes related to making women self-supporting and self-oriented, will also be broadcast at these stations.  The first community radio station was established on November 29, 2009, at the university and started presenting programmes on FM 91.2 MHz. Now, these radio stations will be broadcast twice a day from 9:30am to 11:30am and 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
