Visitors can now visit the Wildlife Sanctuary and Wetland at Harike Pattan which was reopened by Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Minister of Forest, Social Security and Minorities, Punjab, on Tuesday. It was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic as a precautionary measure.
He said, “The Harike Wildlife Sanctuary has been a source of attraction for the tourists and it is a heaven-like home for the migratory birds.”
Also, an amount of ₹15 crore would be released soon by the state government to make Harike bird sanctuary more attractive, revealed Sadhu Singh Dharamsot.
He said that every year a large number of migratory birds come here from other countries and so far more than 50,000 migratory birds are living here and by January, this number would be more than one lakh. The Cabinet Minister also visited Harike Lake in a boat and got detailed information about the migratory birds on the lake. Meanwhile, he directed the officers to constitute a special committee under the supervision of the MLAs of the adjoining areas to prepare a comprehensive plan, collectively for the betterment of sanctuary.
