Shortly after disappearing last month (April 22, 2024), Gurucharan Singh, best known for playing Roshan Singh Sodhi on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah also known as TMKOC hit the screens once more bringing joy to his relatives and admirers by going back to New Delhi where he lives.
Singh’s disappearance had caused significant concerns. He was last seen heading to Mumbai from Delhi airport intending to fly. However, he failed to reach there. After four days, his father informed the police that Gurucharan was sane but unreachable after which they reported him missing since no trace could be found.
As soon as he came back, Delhi Police questioned Singh. They found out that Singh had gone for a holy visit and had visited many Gurudwaras in towns like Amritsar and Ludhiana. Police say that Singh undertook this journey for private purposes and that is why he kept away from contacting others during that time. Eventually, he realized the need to return home and did so without further delay.
The police investigation into Singh’s disappearance had been extensive. They visited the sets of TMKOC, where they spoke with his former co-stars and production staff to gather any leads on his whereabouts. A source from the production house mentioned that everyone cooperated fully with the police, and no crucial information about Singh’s disappearance was uncovered during these inquiries.
Speculations had arisen that Singh’s disappearance might be related to financial issues with the show’s production house. However, the police confirmed that all payments to Singh had been settled long ago, dismissing these rumors. An insider close to the production commented, “There were some rumors related to Gurucharan Singh’s payments being due from the production house. But, the police found that the payment of the actor was cleared long ago.”

Gurucharan Singh played a beloved character in TMKOC, known for his lively and joyous personality. His portrayal of Roshan Singh Sodhi made him a household name. Despite leaving the show in 2013, he returned the following year due to popular demand, only to exit again in 2020, when he was replaced by actor Balwinder Singh Suri. Although there had been speculation about payment delays leading to his departure, Singh had remained discreet about the reasons, stating, “Hum pyaar mohabbat se aage badhna pasand karna chahte hain (I want to move forward with love and respect.). There are some other reasons I don’t want to talk about.”
Singh’s safe return has brought a sense of closure to the unsettling episode, with fans and family members relieved to have him back. His journey highlights the profound impact of personal and spiritual quests, even in the lives of public figures.
