A critical breakthrough has been made in the case involving murder of former Dera Sacha Sauda manager Ranjit Singh, as Punjab high court pronounced Dera founder Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh not guilty in that case. The ruling came following an appeal lodged by Gurmeet Ram Rahim against his earlier conviction in the same court.
The court’s ruling also affects the rest of the accused persons, namely Avtar Singh, Krishan Lal, Jasbir Singh and Sabdil Singh, who have been cleared of all allegations. It is pertinent to point out that in the midst of the proceedings, one of the accused person has already passed away.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, head of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect, has a history of legal issues. In 2019, a CBI court in Panchkula convicted him of rape and two murders: that of a journalist and former Dera manager Ranjit Singh. On October 18, 2021, Ram Rahim and four associates were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Ranjit Singh.

Challenging all the convictions, the Dera chief took his appeals to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. While this recent acquittal pertains to the murder case of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, appeals regarding the rape case and the murder of a journalist are still pending before the High Court.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim continues to stay in Sunaria jail located in Rohtak. The acquittal in the Dera manager murder case is one of the most important legal developments around this contentious figure.
Across the region, discussions and debates on the far-reaching implications of this judgment were stirred by the pronouncement of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. No certain fate hangs over Gurmeet Ram Rahim as his future could be profoundly shaped by the pending appeals, amidst the ongoing legal drama.
The Indian legal system is complex and intricate. Here, court cases can go on for years, and people often disagree about their results. The ongoing lawsuit has made the public watch the legal steps carefully to understand its full meaning and ensure that there is justice and accountability in society.
