GMSH-16 to be established as a medical college soon

Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, will soon be established as a medical college. For this, the administration has prepared the detailed project report (DPR) and sent the proposal to the central government. To develop the city as a medical hub, the administration has sought approval of 50 seats for MBBS in GMSH.

Currently, the city has only 150 MBBS seats offered by Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, which also has 125 seats for postgraduate programmes. The PGIMER offers only postgraduate programmes with around 310 seats.

It is expected to get the approval from the Central Government for the proposed seats by December. The increased seats will benefit students from North India such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir. The administration has allotted 15 acres of land in Sarangpur, which is within 10km radius of GMSH-16, for this purpose.
