In view of the rising number of Covid cases, Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, has now stopped general surgery after shutting the outpatient departments (OPDs) and provide only teleconsultation. However, the facility of surgery has been restored in the case of Emergency and Trauma. The number of cases has seen an upward trend since mid-February.
Dr Jaswinder Kaur, Director Principal of GMCH-32, said that surgery has been continued in the Emergency so that the patients don’t face trouble. “If required, surgery can be provided to older patients by following the Corona Prevention Standards.”
“It has been unanimously decided to stop the offline registration of the OPD patients. Patients will be consulted only through telemedicine and eSanjeevani platforms. They will be seen physically, if required,” said Anil Moudgil, official spokesperson of GMCH.
It is worth noting that recently the doctors of the hospital’s ENT and anaesthesia department had become corona positive. After this, the OPD of ENT of the hospital was closed.
Moreover, two Punjab and Haryana high court (HC) judges have tested positive and four others have been quarantined in the past two days, an official spokesperson had said on Tuesday. The HC had reopened for physical hearings on February 8 after restricted functioning through video-conferencing since March last year.
To provide specialised healthcare facilities, UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore laid the foundation stone of a new Emergency and Trauma Block at GMCH-32. The building will come up in front of the existing Emergency and will have two basements and three upper storeys. The emergency block will add 259 beds to the hospital having clinical labs, X-ray, CT scan, MRI, chemist shop, two emergency operation theatres and a minor operation theatre, post-operative wards, an isolation ward and parking facilities in the twin basement. It will also have provision for central air-conditioning, firefighting and fire sensing. The building will have parking facilities for 59 cars and 144 two-wheelers.
