Foundation stone of water storage-enhancing project to be laid next month

The foundation stone of the project to enhance city’s water storage capacity in the Water Works, Sector-39, will be laid by the UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore next month. Under the project, the water supply capacity in the city will increase from half-a-day to one day and there will be no problem of low pressure. At present, the water capacity is 2,184 lakh litres, which will now increase to 4,186 lakh litres. This project will take two years to complete.

The corporation has awarded the tender to HL Handa & Co to increase the water storage capacity. For this, a tender of ₹37 crore was submitted thrice by the Public Health Department. Twice, three companies came forward, but the tender could not be awarded because only one company remained in the end. Financial bids were opened again for the third time on the instructions of the Corporation Commissioner. In this, ₹34 was quoted by the HL Handa Company.
