Former CM Beant Singh remembered on his death anniversary

A two-minute silence was held and floral tribute was paid to mark the 25th death anniversary of 12th chief minister of Punjab at Beant Singh Memorial, Sector 42.

The annual ‘Sarab Dharam Sammelan’ was not organised due to Covid.

On behalf of Captain Amarinder Singh, who is in home quarantine, Cabinet Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu paid homage to the late chief minister.

Recalling Beant Singh’s sacrifice for Punjab and its people, Sidhu said, “His contribution to peace and harmony in the state would forever remain etched in the hearts and minds of the people. His assassination was a dark day in the state’s history, but his sacrifice paved the way for freedom from terrorism.”

Beant Singh was assassinated in a bomb blast on this day in 1995.
