In these stressful times of Covid, around 90% canteens and shops in the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) are closed as shopkeepers don’t have money to pay the rent. Meanwhile, at the canteen on the fourth floor of Nehru Hospital, goods are being sold at thrice the price as one has to cough up ₹20 for a cup of tea.
This hike is troubling not only the patients, but also the officials. The patients and the visitors have complained to the PGI administration in this regard, but to no avail.
According to the condition of the canteen tender, the canteen on the fourth floor in Nehru Hospital is allowed to sell only five food items. But, dozens of food items are being sold at hiked prices. Now, ₹20 is being charged for a cup of tea; a burger which would cost ₹10 is being sold ₹30, a dinner plate is for ₹80 and the cost for a parontha and curd is ₹30.
