The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shri Banwarilal Purohit has extended his greetings to the people of Punjab and Chandigarh, on the occasion of the 152nd Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Addressing a gathering at Gandhi Samarak Nidhi Chandigarh, the Governor urged the people to follow the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and contribute in the nation building task. On this day each one of us must spread the idea of non violence which has always been the strongest weapon to solve problems of conflict and violence. Mahatma Gandhi got us the freedom from the shackles of the British rule by strongly propagating truth and non violence, he said.
Spreading a clear message of Bapu, the Governor said that the real tribute to Gandhi Ji would be to stand firmly for simplicity and honesty and shun sinful living which is required for the complete transformation and inclusive growth of our nation. Sh. Purohit also gave a clear message to avoid the 7 social sins i.e Politics without Principles, Wealth without Work, Pleasure without Conscience, Knowledge without Character, Commerce without Morality, Science without Humanity and Worship without Sacrifice. This is what had been advocated by Gandhi Ji all through his life.
Purohit also recalled how Gandhi Ji’s initiative of promoting Khadi and Cottage Industry in those days went a long way in knitting economic and sentimental ties between people in the villages and in the towns. Even today Gandhi’s vision of Swachhta, self-reliance, development of Bharat, health, khadi, etc, have been incorporated in various ongoing schemes of Swachh Bharat, Make in India and Fit India, he added.
Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included, Sat Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India and former MP from Chandigarh, Dev Raj Tayagi, Director Gandhi Samarak Nidhi, Nirmal Dutt, Vice Chairperson of Gandhi Samarak Nidhi and Prem Vij, renowned litterateur, besides others.
