Farm Laws Will Be Repealed In Upcoming Parliament Session: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that the Centre will repeal the three controversial farm laws.

“Today I want to tell everyone that we have decided to repeal all three farm laws,” said PM Modi in his address to the nation on Friday morning.

“I apologise to India and with true and pure heart that may be… we were not able to convince farmers [over the farm laws]. I’m here to declare that we have decided to repeal the three farm laws…We will complete all the formalities during Parliament session that begins this month,” said PM Modi.

“To ensure that farmers get the right amount for their hard work, many steps were taken. We strengthened the rural infrastructure market. We not only increased MSP but also set up record govt procurement centres. Procurement by our govt broke the record of past several decades.”

“When I became PM in 2014, we (govt) prioritised farmers’ welfare & development… Many people are unware of this truth that 80/100 are small scale farmers who have less than 2 hectares of land and are over 10 crores in population. This piece of land is their survival.”

PM Modi also urged farmers “to return home to their families and let’s start afresh”.

These laws are — The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.The Prime Minister said that though the laws were enacted for the benefit of farmers, the Government could not convince them, and a section was opposing the laws.

” To overcome the challenges faced by the small farmers of the country, we worked all-round on seeds, insurance, markets and savings. Along with good quality seeds, the government also connected the farmers with facilities like neem coated urea, soil health card, micro irrigation, ” added PM Modi.

“We tried our best to explain to farmers. We were even ready to modify the laws, suspend them too. The matter reached the Supreme Court as well. We haven’t been able to explain to our farmers. This is not a time to blame anyone. I want to tell you that we have taken the farm laws back. We are repealing the farm laws”, added Modi.
